My Dell caught not one, but TWO viruses yesterday!!!
And no, I wasn't surfing shady sites or anything of the sort. I was simply trying to figure out why CS5 wasn't launching on my Dell. Lo and behold, a barrage of windows pop open in the middle of the screen. One thought crossed my mind: OMG I want to kill myself. How did this happen to me of all people??
My laptop was crashing right before my eyes. All this "Antimalware Doctor" and "Security Center" garbage was spewing warning info at me. My web browsers were locked, McAfee couldn't launch, Task Manager wouldn't pull up, ...it was driving me insane. I ended up having to hold down Ctrl+Shift+Esc, hover my mouse over the End Process button, and click it in the split second flicker I could catch of it. Then, I had to weed through the registry, scour my folders, and delete/disable all suspicious files. This took forever. THEN I ran CCleaner, Spybot, Disc Cleanup, and Windows Defender. I restarted my laptop, and scoured the folders once more to make sure everything was out. And finally, did a full system antivirus scan overnight. I was feeling a little better when I plopped down to sleep at 4 AM. That was a mistake. I should never be optimistic, b/c first thing I saw in the morning was an error message along the lines of 'Your laptop bluescreened overnight and shutdown improperly.'
Argggghhhh! The rest of the day after work will be spent reformatting my laptop. Good thing I ran Dell's Backup and Recovery program a few days back when I finally splurged on DVD-Rs. But... I'm not really too sure what those are for and what good they'll do.. I hope I don't kill this laptop w/my reformat like last time. I get the feeling that I'm a little computer illiterate.
