Don’t get me wrong. I love flying. It’s the quick and dirty way to get to wherever you need be; love being a relative term here, because now that I think of it.. security, layovers, delays.
Can’t say I loved my trip today too much. Turned out my flight to Sacramento was overbooked. An hour of waiting and hoping for someone to miss the flight so that I could grab their seat later, the jetway door closed right in front of me. At this point the good news was that I was booked standby on an 8:55 PM flight the same day. My other option: a 3:11 flight the next day.
I came away $496.48 richer. Did I mention that I wasn’t even in a hurry to get to Sacramento in the first place? Maybe this wasn’t really such a bad ordeal.
..but if there’s one thing I really really really dislike, it’s waiting around for something. Waiting just kills me. So those 3 hours of waiting to see if by chance someone would miss their 8:55 flight to Sacramento was TORTURE, especially after doing the same earlier. The airline officials waited right down to the end before letting standby on. We were all lined up in order of our standing on the waitlist and told to wait 5 more minutes to see if the Cancun passengers they were waiting on would show up. There were lots of runners in the terminal, but luckily they were all rushing to the flight to Omaha next door. Once on, I had about 1 minute to find an open seat and settle down.
Queue 4 hours of the most uncomfortable sleep possible. One strained neck later, I’m safe and sound in Sacramento, CA. It’s now 3:30 AM Houston time, 1:30 AM California time, and I’m tired. Get to lose an hour of sleep thanks to daylight savings. =(
